NBA health care fraud scheme: Full list of 18 former players involved in alleged $4 million scam

Eighteen former NBA players have been charged with defrauding the league’s health care plan out of nearly $4 million, according to an indictment unsealed in federal court on Thursday.

The players allegedly engaged in a scheme to defraud the NBA’s Health and Welfare Benefit Plan by submitting fake reimbursement claims for medical and dental services that were never rendered. The indictment says that the scheme was carried out from at least 2017 through 2020 with the false claims totaling around $3.9 million.

Federal prosecutors described Terrence Williams, who played for four NBA teams from 2009-2013, as the leader of the plan. He allegedly provided false invoices to support player claims, receiving kickback payments that toaled at least $230,000. Williams also allegedly impersonated someone who processed plan claims at one point.

All of those involved in the alleged scheme face charges of conspiracy to commit health care fraud and wire fraud. Here is a full list of the players involved in the case:
