Mum of missing rugby ace questions ‘slow’ Spanish cops over drowning theory

The mother of a missing rugby union star has spoken out after Spanish police suggested her son might have drowned at sea.

Levi Davis, 24, has not been seen since October 29 last year, with his phone last detected at a train station in Barcelona. He posted and deleted an Instagram video days before his disappearance in which he claimed to have been blackmailed following an appearance on The X Factor: Celebrity in 2019.

Following a lengthy search, local police eventually theorised that the former Bath player had drowned following an unconfirmed sighting of a man in the water near the entrance of the city's port on the morning of October 30.

According to the cops, four cruise ship staff members heard the man shouting for help in English as their vessel passed by. A lifebuoy was thrown to him, but a subsequent search by police and the coastguard found nothing.

As such, Levi's Mum, Julie, is unconvinced by the theory.

"Why is this information about the cruise ship staff only coming months later? I don’t know what to believe anymore. I know the Spanish police can be slow but I can’t make head nor tail of it," she said speaking to The Sun.

"There’s lots of answers to questions that I need to know. It’s disheartening when you ask police questions and get very limited feedback. They say, ‘We can’t tell you that because it will jeopardise the case.’ It’s been a total emotional rollercoaster."

Julie says she's accepted the fact that her son is most likely dead, but without a body she can never be sure.

Levi, who became the first rugby union player to come out as bisexual in 2020, posted a video on social media days before his disappearance, claiming criminals had threatened to kill his family.

"My name is Levi Davis and my life is in danger. I beg that you listen and try to understand what I’m telling you," he said in a since deleted clip.
