Meet the Olympic and Paralympic power couple both competing in Tokyo this summer
After track and field athlete Tara Davis competed at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, her boyfriend Hunter Woodhall is now set to compete at the Paralympics in the 400m.
He was born with fibular hemimelia, which caused his parents to decide to amputate both his legs at 11 months old.
The pair met at the high school track meet in Idaho and Davis, 22, made things official following a late night social media post from Woodhall.
The couple have been together for four years, but they have had to overcome some challenges during that time.
The pair dated long-distance while Woodhall attended the University of Arkansas and Davis attended the University of Georgia; Davis later transferred to the University of Texas.
Once the Paralympics have concluded, the athletes plan to move in together.
The Americans shared a lovely hug after Davis finished second at the Olympic trials to book her place in Tokyo, a moment she will never forget.
“I ran up to Hunter and we had our moment, that moment solidified everything for me”, she recalled.
“To be able to hug him was an unreal experience.
"He said this yesterday, but it was the most memorable event that he’s seen in track and field.”
“I mean… To be able to hug him was an unreal experience ?! I cry! I die! I humiliate myself by Google Image–searching ‘Tara Davis Hunter Woodhall kiss’!
Sadly, Woodhall was unable to watch his beau compete at the Olympics and she will be unable to cheer him from the stands in the ongoing Paralympics after Tokyo banned spectators from attending events.
“It’s sad that we can’t watch each other at the Olympics, but I know we’ll be cheering each other on,” Davis said.
Woodhall added: “I feel like this speaks to who we are as a couple. We motivate each other and make a good team in a lot of ways.”
Tara finished 6th in the long jump at Tokyo earlier this month and Woodhall will aim for some coveted Paralympic hardware on the track within the next fortnight.
