Rafael Nadal may have fallen short in his bid to win five straight French Open titles for the second time in his career, but the Spaniard has few reasons to feel sour this summer.

The Mirror confirmed Nadal’s withdrawal from both the 2021 Wimbledon Championships and 2020 Tokyo Olympics later in July, giving the 20-time Grand Slam-winner some time to recover.

And while Serena Williams can return to her £5.1million abode in Beverly Hills following her shock first-round exit at Wimbledon, Nadal owns a yacht worth almost as much to enjoy his summer prep.

The £4.5m Sunreef ‘Great White’ is a mansion that moves with the tide, boasting four cabins for its guests, a wet bar, barbecue, hot tub and comes equipped with a roof-deck bar.

As if those amenities weren’t enough, the 80-foot behemoth also boasts a jet ski garage and waterfall-fed spa pool, just in case one fancies going for a dip without actually leaving the boat.

Nadal purchased the custom-built Sunreef 80 in 2019 after deciding he wanted an upgrade on his 76-foot Italian MCY 76 motor yacht called Beethoven, which he sold for £2m.

The tennis superstar—who was born on the island of Mallorca—told Forbes he still doesn’t have time to take his yacht that far afield, though he’s hoping that changes soon: “I am going to use the boat most of the time in the Balearic Islands.

Do you think Rafael Nadal will win the 2021 U.S. Open following his summer break? Let us know in the comments section.

“Mainly because I don’t have a lot of time these days to go very far. I have to keep training and keep my focus on tennis. Hopefully in the near future I will have the chance to take the boat to other places and discover the world.”

Nadal may not be representing his country at SW19 this summer, but the keen football fan is sure to have one eye on Spain’s fortunes as they face Switzerland in the Euro 2020 quarter-finals on Friday.

With that in mind, the ‘Great White’ also comes fully equipped with two 77-inch televisions and an eight-person dining table to host a complement of guests on board.

Speaking about his love of sailing given where he hails from, the 35-year-old said after acquiring the boat: “As someone from an island as I am, the sea is part of our lives and it’s not a secret that I love the sea.

"Every time I am at home in Mallorca I try to go out and find that time where I can just enjoy my time on a boat.”

The Sunreef can reach speeds of up to 24 knots (27.6 miles per hour), although with 4,000 square feet of interior living space, the sailing would come secondary for many lucky enough to come aboard.

Nadal—who won an Olympic singles gold at Beijing 2008 and dominated the doubles at Rio 2016—will keep his £4.5m purchase docked at the Porto Cristo Nautical Club in his native Mallorca, where he also owns a mansion overlooking his vessel.

Forbes estimated Nadal’s 2020 earnings to be in the region of $40m (£29m), making him the third-highest-earning tennis player that year.

One can see how the veteran is able to afford such a lavish expense given his latest yacht is still only a fraction of his annual earnings, with more to follow in 2021.

The clay specialist is currently tied with long-time rival Roger Federer for the joint-most major tournaments of any men's player.

One more would make either veteran the most successful of all time in their field, although Novak Djokovic—who is on course to challenge for a calendar Grand Slam in 2021—has 19 major titles.

Nadal could be in the frame to make his Grand Slam return at the U.S. Open later this summer, with the main draw at Flushing Meadows in New York set to get underway August 30.
