Italy’s team crossed the line in 3min 42.307sec sending the crowd into raputures as Fillipo Ganna, the individual team pursuit world champion, did a huge turn to drag his team-mates around and send the velodrome into total shock as Italy sent the Kiwi’s packing. Team GB’s Laura Kenny who watched the event looks on in complete shock as she witnesses Olympic history unfolding as the men complete their race in a blistering time.
Commentator Chris Boardman said: “We would expect world records to go by tenths.
“But we are just seeing lumps knocked out of it!”
