Ex-Bath and England rugby star Dave Egerton has died aged 59 after a short battle with coronavirus.
The former back row represented England on seven occasions – but it was at Bath where he impressed most with 163 games in a decade.
Egerton won five league titles and another five cups under Jack Rowell at the club.
The former international contracted Covid-19 and was rushed into hospital over the weekend.
His passing was confirmed on Tuesday morning, with former club Bath paying tribute on social media.
Bath said: "We are all deeply shocked and incredibly sad to learn that Club legend, Dave Egerton has passed away.
"A wonderful gentleman and talented player, taken from us far too soon.
"Our thoughts and love go out to his family and friends."
Former England star Brian Moore added: "This is terrible, terrible news. Dave Egerton was a contemporary of mine as a student and in the England team.
"He was an intelligent, amusing guy and a very good player. RIP Dave – you will be missed and all my thoughts are with your family."
Egerton moved into commentary and punditry following his retirement.
He worked closely with BBC Radio Bristol.
And they also paid tribute to Egerton with a moving post on social media early on Tuesday morning.
"It is with great sadness we have learnt of the passing of former Bath Rugby number eight David Egerton," they wrote.
"Dave, who won 7 caps for England, was a valued member of our commentary team at BBC Radio Bristol.
" We are all thinking of his family and friends at this extremely sad time."
