Denmark’s Frederik Madsen was furious with Team GB after crashing into Charlie Tenfield in their heat. Great Britain faced off against Denmark in their first-round heats after qualifying fourth on Monday.
The Danes were the hot favourites after smashing the Olympic record in the qualification round.
And Team GB faced a tall order in trying to topple the Danes, who are also the reigning world champions.
When both teams lined up for their first-round heat, Team GB were just about keeping track with Denmark.
But they soon lost their way as Denmark soon opened up a huge advantage.
The gap had increased to over three seconds but disaster struck as Madsen took out Tanfield, leaving both teams with just two riders.
There was initial confusion to what that meant for the result in the heat as the final time is usually taken from the third and final rider to cross the line.
Two-time Olympic gold medallist made it clear the blame laid solely at the feet of the Denmark rider for the collision.
“The Danish rider crashes into the back into the British rider,” she said on BBC Radio 5 Live.
“His head is down he is not looking where he is going.
“You have to hold your line if someone is approaching you like that and that is exactly what the GB rider did.”
