England rugby star Maro Itoje responds brilliantly to Marcus Rashford confusion

Maro Itoje took to social media to brilliantly respond to the news that the Education Secretary mistook the rugby star for Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford.

Itoje, who was recently named the Player of the Tour in the Lions’ series defeat to South Africa, campaigned for millions of kids across the country to get access to laptops during lockdown.

His actions are in a similar vein to Rashford, who has been heavily involved in politics as his battle against child food poverty has captured the hearts of the nation.

Education Secretary Gavin Williamson thought he had conversations with the England striker – when in fact it was Itoje.

“We met over Zoom and he seemed incredibly engaged, compassionate and charming but then he had to shoot off,” Williamson told the Evening Standard.

“I didn’t want to be the one that was holding him back from his training.”

The Standard reported that Williamson’s team later amended his statement and said he had not in fact met Rashford, but Itoje who recently starred for the Lions in South Africa.

Itoje took the mix-up incredibly well, and posted his light-hearted response on Twitter.

“Much love, Marcu…I mean Maro Itoje.”

The humorous response from the Saracens second row star came after Rashford had joked about the situation on Twitter himself.
