Novak Djokovic was ripped to shreds by two Australian news reporters – even before he admitted to breaking isolation while Covid positive before entering the country.

The 20-time Grand Slam winner told his social media followers that he had vaccine exemption early last week, but had his visa cancelled on arrival and was held in a government property.

Despite a judge later ordering the release of the player due to the manner in which his visa was revoked, his place in the Australian Open remained uncertain.

Djokovic has since admitted breaking isolation while Covid positive in other twist on his position in the country, which came after he was torn to bits by Australian reporters.

Channel 7 presenter’s Rebecca Maddern and Mike Amor were captured behind their desk talking freely about the world No.1 – seemingly thinking they were not being recorded.

Ms Maddern can be heard saying: "Whatever way you look at it, Novak Djokovic is a lying, sneaky, a******. Whatever way you look at it… It is unfortunate that everyone stuffed up around him.

"To go out when you know you’re Covid-positive… Well, I don’t think he was even Covid-positive."

Mr Amor replied: "That’s it, he’s an a******.

"He got a bull*** f****** excuse and then fell over his own f****** lies.

"It’s just what happens, right, that’s what happened."

Maddern has since apologised for the harsh comments, with Channel 7 Director of News and Public Affairs Craig McPherson offering an update on the situation on Wednesday.

He said: "The illegal recording was of a private conversation between two colleagues.

"It was an underhanded, cowardly act in breach of the Victorian Listening Devices legislation the perpetrator of which will be accordingly dealt with when found."
