Cyclists decide who wins tour stage by playing rock, paper, scissors
Offbeat news from the world of sport
Teammates Tadej Pogacar and Rafal Majka utterly dominated stage four of the Tour of Slovenia and came up with a novel way of working out who would win the race.
Pogacar and Majka both ride for UAE Team Emirates and were comfortably ahead of the other cyclists as they approached the finish line. And the pair engaged in a friendly match of rock, paper, scissors on the final straight.
Majka ultimately won the game and the stage after picking paper, which defeated Pogacar's rock. And Eurosport commentator Carlton Kirby clearly found the moment entertaining in Slovenia, describing it as "fantastic".
He said: "They are playing rock, paper, scissors before the line. He was teasing him. That's fantastic.
"Majka takes the day and Pogacar essentially takes the race. He was basically saying 'how shall we work this out? Let's do rock, paper, scissors' and Majka burst out laughing, but was allowed to take the stage.
"You could have said this was predictable today. Love that. Fancy having the thought of being able to produce that.

"One thing is certain: this day, along with many other days, have belonged to UAE Team Emirates, to Pogacar and to Majka."
Taking to Twitter after the race, Pogacar wrote: "Not enough words to describe today stage, @TeamEmiratesUAE on [fire], my hometown Komenda on [fire] and whole Slovenia once more on [fire]. When you play rock, scissors, paper and @majkaformal beat you. Thank you everyone!! Amazing day."
