China skater accused of taking out competitor as Winter Olympics clip goes viral
Chinese speed skater Fan Kexin has been at the centre of controversy during the quarterfinal of the women’s 500-metre short-track speed skating.
Kexin appears to flick one of the markers placed on the ice rink into the skates of the Canadian Alyson Charles.
Charles went crashing down onto the ice, and she eventually finished fourth with her Winter Olympic dream crushed.
However, there was another twist as Charles’ Canadian teammate Florence Brunelle was relegated to fourth after earning a second penalty of the games.
Brunelle had made an illegal pass past Kexin, allowing Charles and Kexin to qualify for the semi-finals.
"This incident wasn’t Canada’s fault… look at the footage closely and you will see it was the Chinese competitor who flicks the marker," one fan tweeted.
Another added: "Biggest cheaters on the planet."
While Brunelle, who was disqualified from the event told Canadian media: “That’s sport. Through making mistakes, I’ll learn. I’ll arrive more ready for other competitions having lived what I’m going through.”

Italy's Arianna Fontana eventually won women’s 500-metre short-track speed skating gold.
It was the Italians 10th Olympic medal in short track speed skating, making her the most decorated Olympian ever in the discipline.
Fontana said: "When I crossed the line -– all that yelling –- I don't usually yell, it was just a way to let it out, all that anger.
"We had people that didn't want me here. My federation wasn't really supportive with me having my husband as a coach.
"Today we proved that he's an amazing coach. It was my best choice, my best decision to have him on my side."
