British sprinter Zharnel Hughes breaks 200m record after smashing 100m mark
Zharnel Hughes has made history once again by smashing the British record over 200m, clocking a time of 19.73 seconds at the London Diamond League meet on Sunday. John Regis held the previous British record over 200m, setting the benchmark at 19.94 back at the 1993 World Championships.
But Hughes smashed that time by 0.21 secs in front of a sell-out 50,000 crowd at the London Stadium.
It comes just weeks after he pulled off a similar feat in the 100m to break Linford Christie’s record at the NYC Grand Prix back in June.
Hughes is now Britain’s fastest man over both distances with the Paris Olympics only 12 months away.
