Ben Simmons destroys NBA commentator who called him overrated
If you troll Ben Simmons, he’ll troll you right back.
After Washington play-by-play announcer Justin Kutcher took shots at the 76ers All-Star during Philadelphia’s 127-101 win over the Wizards, Simmons clapped back by posting a rather amusing photo of Kutcher on his Instagram story.
“I’ve said it before and I know I’ll take flak for it, Ben Simmons is one of, if not the most, overrated players in the NBA,” Kutcher said during the third quarter of NBC Sports Washington’s Wizards-76ers broadcast. “He’s gotten so much love and attention that people aren’t paying attention to what Tobias Harris is actually doing on the floor.”
Simmons, who is widely considered a frontrunner for Defensive Player of the Year, went all the way back to an Instagram photo Kutcher posted on January 15, 2018, and posted it on his story. The photo shows Kutcher in a bathrobe holding a drink in a pre-workout bottle with sunglasses on.
“Another casual,” wrote Simmons, who missed last week’s games after getting his hair cut by a barber who tested positive for COVID.

Kutcher, who also works for Fox Sports, was right about taking “flak” for his hot take. Former NBA star Kendrick Perkins, who won an NBA championship with the Celtics in 2008, eviscerated Kutcher on Twitter for his take on Simmons.
“Did he just say that Ben Simmons is the most overrated player in the league?” Perkins wrote. “Shame on him. This gotta be the most disturbing thing I’ve heard all year. He do realise that Simmons is the front runner for DPOY?! #ridiculous.”
But Kutcher doubled-down on his opinion of Simmons, taking to Twitter shortly after the game to repeat his assessment but also clarify he didn’t mean that the three-time All-Star was bad.
“Yep, I said that Ben Simmons is one of the most overrated plyrs in the NBA, and I stand by it,” he wrote. “I didn’t say he was BAD, just not as good as everyone makes him out to be. GREAT defender, potential DPOY, but I think he’s made All League/All Star Teams based on hype. And. goodnight.”
Simmons is currently averaging 16 points, nearly eight assists and eight rebounds per game.
