Aaron Rodgers will earn more this NFL season than Lionel Messi does at PSG
Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is the highest-paid player in the NFL – and the four-time MVP is set to earn more than Paris Saint-Germain star Lionel Messi this season.
Rodgers starred for the Packers in 2021, throwing for 4,115 yards and 37 touchdowns as Green Bay stormed to the number one seed. However, they crashed out of the playoffs with a disappointing defeat to the San Francisco 49ers at Lambeau Field.
Amid speculation he wanted to leave the Packers, Rodgers chose to stay with the franchise that selected him in the first round of the 2005 NFL Draft. He inked a new contract extension that made him the highest-paid player in the NFL.

After Rodgers claimed his second successive MVP award, he officially signed a contract extension which made him the highest paid player in North American sports history on an annual basis. His $50.27million (£43.3m) deal surpassed NBA star Damian Lillard’s $49m (£42.2m) per year contact.
His contract is remarkably more than Messi’s deal with PSG. The Argentine star swapped Barcelona for Paris following two decades in Catalonia, but struggled for form in his first campaign.
Messi has just entered his second season in France and is in the final season of his contract. According to L’Equipe , the 35-year-old makes $47m (£40m) per year which goes down to $41m (£35.5m) after taxes but ensures he remains one of the highest-paid players at the club alongside Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.

If the reports are correct, it means Messi makes around $3.5m (£3m) per month – or $860,000 (£689,595) a week. It is an incredible amount of money, but it still pales in comparison to Rodgers.
The quarterback has used his funds wisely though, securing a minority ownership stake in the Milwaukee Bucks. The Bucks won the 2021 NBA Finals, with Rodgers reportedly receiving a championship ring.
The 38-year-old has won back-to-back MVP awards after starring for the Packers in 2020 and 2021. Rodgers is the fifth player to win the NFL MVP in consecutive seasons, joining Peyton Manning, Brett Favre, Joe Montana and Jim Brown.
