UFC star Israel Adesanya is warned Jon Jones ‘would KILL him’ if the two fighters were to face-off, by Henry Cejudo… as he claims the legendary fighter ‘doesn’t like’ his Kiwi counterpart after disrespectful comments

  • UFC star Israel Adesanya has been told Jon Jones ‘would kill him’ if they fought
  • Legend of the sport, Jones, ‘doesn’t like’ Adesanya according to Henry Cejudo
  • Cejudo says Adesanya’s comments about Jones’ mother crossed a moral line
  • It’s unlikely the two will face-off, with Jones gearing up for a heavyweight debut

MMA star Israel Adesanya has been told that Jon Jones ‘would kill him’ if the two fighters faced-off, by former UFC champion Henry Cejudo.

A bout between the two has been speculated in recent years, with many claiming that Adesanya is one of the only fighters on the UFC’s roster who can challenge the legendary Jones.

However, Cejudo thinks that the ‘Last Stylebender’ would lose if he was to face a 35-year-old Jones and insists he’s ‘not a fan’ of the Kiwi after disrespectful comments were made about Jones’ mother.

UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya has been warned not to fight Jon Jones

Jones, who hasn’t fought since February 2020, is widely regarded as one of the sport’s legends

On his YouTube channel, Cejudo said: ‘Jones would kill Israel. If you were to let Jones like literally kill him, Jones would kill him. That’s how much he doesn’t like him. It’s understood though too.

‘The reason why I kind of started not becoming a fan of Israel is just because of the simple fact that he talked about his [Jon Jones’] mom who is deceased. For me that was like a dealbreaker. That’s the stuff that really threw me off with Israel, that’s really not cool man. There is somewhat limits to this stuff and you don’t do that.’

Cejudo makes reference to a Twitter spat between the two from October 2020, in which Adesanya asserted that Jones’ mother would be ‘disappointed’ in him.

Adesanya had written: ‘My pops already told me how I’d beat you. Trust me he knows. Your mom would be disappointed in who you’ve become.’

The ‘Last Stylebender’ is currently number two in the UFC’s pound-for-pound rankings

Former two-weight champion Cejudo says Jones’ dislike for Adesanya is ‘understandable’

Jones’s mother Camille died in 2017 after a long battle with diabetes and he responded by assuring Adesanya that she would be proud of him.

He wrote: ‘Sitting with tens of millions of dollars, children on fire about Jesus Christ, one of the greatest martial artist and world history. Sure my mom is disappointed, why you mad bro?

‘My mother was an amazing humanitarian. I know for a fact that the care project makes her more proud than anything I’ve done in the UFC.

‘Izzy thanks for giving me the opportunity to highlight my amazing mother this afternoon, now I’m just missing her. Are we still on for 2021?’

The UFC fighters traded verbal blows two years ago when Adesanya mentioned Jones’ mother

A bout between the two looked to be entering the next stages when Adesanya made his first step up to light heavyweight in March 2021 – which is the weight division Jones has fought for most his career.

However, things didn’t go to plan for the Kiwi fighter as he was beaten by champion Jan Błachowicz via unanimous decision. It prompted Adesanya to return to middleweight and continue training.

Meanwhile, in recent months, Jones has teased his return to the octagon and the prospect of a move up in weight class to heavyweight – with bouts against Francis Ngannou and Ciryl Gane speculated – making a fight with Adesanya even less likely.

Despite Jones’ lengthy absence since his last fight, the American is still 11th in the UFC men’s pound-for-pound rankings while Adesanya sits 2nd in the same list.
