Following his official retirement from UFC, Khabib Nurmagomedov appears to have made quick moves into the coaching world.
The undefeated Russian, who has recently been in the corner for his cousin Umar and fellow countryman Islam Makhachev, has fuelled further talk he is becoming a coach by training UFC star Luke Rockhold.
According to Rockhold, a team-mate of Khabib’s at the American Kickboxing Academy, the 32-year-old is eager to be part of his comeback.

UFC legend Khabib appears to be moving into coaching after officially retiring from the sport
Former UFC middleweight king Rockhold, who hasn’t fought since defeat to Jan Blachowicz in July 2019, recently shared pictures on Instagram of the pair post-training.
The 36-year-old American captioned his social media post: Been too long Champ… I mean coach.’
The social media post follows Rockhold recently admitting that Khabib wants to train him ahead of his return to the Octagon.
During an interview with TMZ, Rockhold revealed: ‘I kind of felt it coming, especially with Khabib reaching out to me and wanting to coach me.

‘He’s assuming this coaching role now. He’s like, “You can’t be the master, you can’t be the boss.”
‘And he’s like, “I want to coach you, I want to be here.” He was going off on me wanting to coach now.
‘He wants to be a big part of my comeback. It’s pretty funny to see Khabib assume this role.
‘He’s going for the “Coach of the Year.” That’s what he wants. He wants to be the next great thing, following in his dad’s footsteps.’
‘That’s what his dad always did. His dad was always insightful, and always had a good eye for the sport … and I think Khabib’s ready to assume that role in fatherhood.’
Khabib has retired from UFC after going out at the top with victory over Justin Gaethje
Khabib’s father Abdulmanap, who was a highly-respected figure in combat sports in Dagestan and was passionate about developing local fighters, passed away last year following complications having contracted coronavirus.
Khabib will this weekend be in the corner for his cousin, Abubakar, at UFC 260 when he comes up against Jared Gooden.
In January this year Khabib was in the corner for cousin, Umar, as he made a winning start to his UFC career against Sergey Morozov.
