Tyson Fury has backed Conor McGregor to claim revenge on Dustin Poirier by beating him in their blockbuster trilogy fight this weekend at UFC 264.

McGregor is looking to get his career back on track and earn his place back in the lightweight title picture after suffering a shock defeat to Poirier in their rematch in January earlier this year.

World heavyweight boxing champion Fury admitted last month that he heard McGregor lived ‘like a rock star’ only weeks out from a fight, but believes he has dedicated himself to the job at hand this time and is predicting a victory for the Irishman.

Boxing champion Fury previously said he’s heard McGregor lives like a rock star in fight camps

Asked for his prediction, Fury said: ‘I think McGregor will win this time. I think he’s trained hard, and he’s got it all to prove. It will be a great event and one to watch. Tune in.’

Speaking to Michael Bisping for BT Sport back in June, Fury claimed McGregor’s career is on the line in this fight.

He said: ‘Well it’s Conor McGregor’s final role of the dice, if he loses this one it’s curtains isn’t it? I think he wins this fight and I think he wins it in style.

‘With Conor, you never know what he’s been doing in training camps and all that, from what I hear he lives like a rock star while he’s like a week away from his fight, so you can’t do that.

‘When I’m in a fight camp I am 100 per cent dedicated to the fight. I go to bed early, I don’t drink anything but water, I dedicate 100 per cent to the fight.

‘If I was going out and getting smashed before fights, then I’m asking to lose.’

McGregor was up to his old tricks this week as he ramped up the mind games by sending a creepy voice note to Poirier ahead of Saturday night’s showdown.

In the short recording he posted on Twitter, McGregor could be heard saying: ‘Dustin, pea head, I’m coming for you pea head, silly hillbilly.’

The rivalry between the pair has intensified over the last few months following their row over a payment of $500,000 McGregor promised to Poirier’s charitable foundation.

The former two-weight champion said he had not been told specifically where his money would go and took exception to the American airing dirty laundry in public.

Fury said back in June this is McGregor’s final roll of the dice but believes he’ll win in style

Poirier subsequently apologised but there is a degree of animosity, enhanced by the fact that this weekend’s fight means so much for both men.

UFC president Dana White admitted victory for McGregor could see him earn a shot at Charles Oliveira’s lightweight title next.

‘Listen, Conor McGregor is a competitor,’ White told MMA Junkie on Tuesday. ‘All you’ve got to do is look. The guy has a ton of money. He doesn’t need to fight anymore. He wants to fight. He’s a fighter to the core.

‘What’s at stake is, yes, he wants to be back on top. He goes in there and beats the No. 1 guy in the world, he’s probably going to get the next title shot. The other thing Conor McGregor likes probably more than competition is money.

‘When he fights, he makes a s***load of money. These are all still very important things to him at this point in his life.’
