Luke Rockhold is eyeing a fight with ‘weak-minded’ Paulo Costa when he returns to action this summer.

The former middleweight champion is recovering from a back injury but has not competed in the UFC since July 2019.

Rockhold is plotting a comeback and is keen to lock horns with the Brazilian, who he criticised for missing weight in the past.

Costa (left) recently missed weight again for his clash with Marvin Vettori (right)

He told Submission Radio: ‘It’s an option – it’s a very viable option so as long as terms are met, you know, we could have a dance.’

Costa recently missed weight for his defeat by Marvin Vettori and blamed drinking too much wine before his clash with Israel Adesanya as the reason for his poor performance in their encounter.

Rockhold went on: ‘I didn’t even watch the fight. I haven’t watched a lot of fights lately. I don’t know. Good for (Vettori) fighting the fight and obviously winning the fight. I’ve got to watch it.

‘But it’s just stupid (that Costa missed weight). I heard it, and it’s just weak. It’s weak-minded.

‘It’s a very similar thing to excusing a loss to drinking too much wine the night before a world title fight.’

‘I’m not here to fight f****ing cheaters. So if the weight is met, unless too much wine is consumed, you never know. Weight has to be met. Weight has to be met.

Costa could be next for the American, who has been out of action since 2019

‘There’s too many f******* weak-ass people trying to get advantages upon the game. And I’ve lost – I’ve killed myself to make weight and do things right, and I can’t say the same for the rest of them.

‘I ain’t going to do that again. I ain’t going to do that again and fight a guy that misses weight purposely to gain an advantage. F*** no. There has to be fair play. We’re fighting. We’re not like playing anything else. We’re fighting, so fair play is necessary.

‘And at this stage of my career, I ain’t willing to f****ing risk anything but fair play, because I do it right, I always have done it right, and it’s got to be done right.’
