UFC welterweight Jorge Masvidal has hit out at former training partner Colby Covington, branding him a ‘b****’ and saying he ‘really wants to hurt’ him.

The pair were given the green light to fight in a ‘best friends turned enemies’ fight by UFC President Dana White.

However the plans were shelved when it was announced that Masvidal was to instead get a rematch with welterweight champion Kamaru Usman.

Instead he will get his shot at revenge against weltweight champion Kamaru Usman

Masvidal was defeated by Usman via unanimous decision last year, and it was agreed the pair would have a rematch at UFC 261 on April 24.

But the 36-year-old has vowed to settle the score with Covington down the line and do so in a more dramatic style compared to his five-second knockout victory over Ben Askren in 2019.

He told ESPN: ‘I really wanna hurt this guy in a way that I’ve never done.

‘I want to make it seem like the Ben Askren fight was very merciful compared to what I’m gonna do to Colby. Guaranteed.

‘And that fight will take place, but when I the f*** I say so.’

In the interview he explained why the fight with Covington is not yet going ahead.

He said: ‘The Colby deal was we already knew we had the Usman fight, They already told me, ‘Hey, you have the Usman fight.’

‘So why am I gonna fight the second-place guy that got his jaw broken, left running out of the ring, didn’t talk for months on Twitter because he got his jaw broken?

‘Why don’t I go fight the guy that broke his jaw? Because I’ve already been beating the crap out of Colby for God knows how long.

‘I’m gonna beat the crap out of him, too, before my career is done.’

Usman was set to fight Gilbert Burns at UFC 251 last July, when the latter pulled out due to a positive Covid-19 test.

Masvidal stepped in Burns’ place with less than a week’s notice and ultimately fell to defeat.

Usman who beat Masvidal at UFC 251 will get a second match against him at UFC 261

Covington and Masvidal were best friends for a number of years before their falling out.

Masvidal even helped Tyron Woodley before his match with Covington at UFC Fight Night in September last year.

Covington ended up winning that match when Woodley suffered a rib injury.
