UFC star Ciryl Gane has insisted that ‘the pressure is not on my shoulders’ ahead of his heavyweight title fight against Jon Jones.
The French combat star will get his second chance at UFC glory on Saturday night as he takes on the veteran Jones in the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
And, ahead of the bout, Gane reassured fans that he’s feeling looking forward to the challenge of fighting Jones and suggested he enjoys being an underdog.
Speaking to BT Sport, the Frenchman said: ‘I’m really happy because he is the GOAT. So yeah, the pressure is not on my shoulders.
‘I’m a young guy, I’ve just started. When you compare me against this guy… how’s that going to put more pressure?

American fighter Jones will make his first appearance inside the octagon since 2020
‘I’m going to do my best. I like to be in this position. Since I started, I’ve always been the outsider [underdog].
‘All of my career, I’ve been the outsider. So why should I be afraid? I’m going to test myself.’
The 32-year-old has had a meteoric rise through the heavyweight division in the last four years and has quickly become of the UFC’s hottest properties.
Since his debut in 2019, he’s picked up a UFC record of 8-1, with his only loss coming in a decision defeat against reigning heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou last year.
Gane had looked dominant in the opening exchanges of the round before being outworked on the ground by his Cameroonian counterpart.
Jones, meanwhile, is known as a veteran in the sport but hasn’t stepped foot inside the octagon for three years – leaving some fans to speculate over his current ability.
The American hasn’t fought since his decision victory over Dominick Reyes in 2020 but is preparing to return to the UFC for the huge clash this weekend.
Jones has moved from light heavyweight to heavyweight for the bout and has undergone a pretty serious body transformation in order to do so.
Pictures of the new jacked-up Jones began circulating social media last night after official snaps from the UFC’s pre-fight photo shoot were released.
Gane recorded a dominant KO win in his last outing against Tai Tuivasa in September
UFC 285 promises to be one of the most exciting cards this year, even if you look past the thrilling main event between Jones and Gane.
Women’s flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko will defend her title against Alex Grasso, after Geoff Neal and Shavkat Rakhmonov clash in a welterweight bout.
Meanwhile, Russian star Sergei Pavlovich has been confirmed as the backup fighter for this weekend’s UFC 285 main event.
The news was confirmed by Pavlovich’s manager Ali Abdelaziz, who claimed that the Russian heavyweight would be weighing in on Friday ahead of the bout.
