MMA star Nate Marquardt has been slammed by fight fans after the former UFC middleweight contender went on a homophobic rant while watching a UFC event over the weekend.
The 43-year-old former Strikeforce champion was outraged after seeing a commercial on ESPN+ that showed two men kissing while watching UFC Fight Night 219 with his family.
Marquardt, who is very forthright with his religious beliefs, took to Twitter to express his disgust with the broadcast.
‘Wow disgusting commercial watching [ESPN+] with my kids and have to tell them to look away so they don’t see two men kissing!’ Marquardt tweeted.
Fans were quick to criticise Marquardt for his homophobic remark.

‘Easiest Unfollow I’ve had all day. As a follower of Christ…. You’re better than this Nate. Praying for you brother,’ wrote one Twitter user.

‘Dawg I hope you never win a single fight again,’ commented a third.
Despite the immediate backlash for his remarks, Marquardt hasn’t deleted his tweets or made an apology. Rather, ‘The Great’ has doubled down on his initial comments and labelled gay people as ‘disgusting’ and said that homosexuality is ‘destructive to society’.
