Dustin Poirier calls for Conor McGregor to complete trilogy with Nate Diaz
Dustin Poirier says the last fight to make for Nate Diaz on his current UFC deal is a trilogy with rival Conor McGregor.
McGregor and Diaz met at UFC 196 five years ago when Diaz handed the UFC star his first promotional loss after filling in on 11 days' notice for the injured Rafael Dos Anjos.
Their second fight would take place just five months later with McGregor avenging his loss by outpointing Diaz in a thrilling back-and-forth classic.
McGregor and Diaz have continued their rivalry years on by often trading words on social media, but a third fight between the two rivals has never been booked.
Poirier has picked up two wins against McGregor in 2021, stopping him at UFC 257 in January and winning their trilogy fight in July.
And Poirier thinks Diaz should see out his UFC contract by fighting McGregor.
"That's the fight to make (for Diaz). They should do that," he told Punchin' In.
"That's a big fight… Especially if Conor hasn't been able to do much running and biking and stuff like that because of the rehab of the leg.
"Maybe he's a little bit heavier, do it at 170 (pounds).
McGregor has continued his war of words with Poirier after his latest loss to the former interim lightweight champion.
But despite their rivalry, Poirier has given McGregor credit for his skills in the octagon.
"I think he's a special individual man. His timing, power, speed, he has some special things about him for sure," Poirier continued.
Diaz has been linked with fights against Vicente Luque, Tony Ferguson and Khamzat Chimaev as his time with the promotion seemingly comes to an end.
But Diaz has dismissed any chance of Chimaev being his next opponent, posting a video mocking the fight on social media.
White fired back at fans who accused him of trying to "devalue" Diaz by matching him up with Chimaev, who has taken the UFC by storm since his debut last year.

He told Robbie Fox: "I love Nate Diaz. I love Nick and Nate as much as anybody else does. You get to a point where it's like, can I hang here anymore?
"Are we looking for less daunting fights in the UFC? Is that what we're looking to do? It's just all bull****.
"Devalue him? Cause it's the last fight on his contract? Does everybody know he just lost his last fight? How are you going to devalue him.
"What if he loses to somebody else we match him up with, would he be devalued? How does Khamzat Chimaev devalue him?
"You know how massive that fight…here's the moral of the story. All these people are f****** morons and have no idea what they're talking about."
