Darren Till has revealed how multiple muscle and ligament injuries forced him to request an exit from the UFC roster, although has vowed to return in the future.
Liverpool-born Till was one of the sport’s brightest prospects when he burst onto the scene in 2013 and went on an 18-fight unbeaten streak before eventually being stopped by Tyron Woodley in 2018.
However, recent bouts have seen the nicknamed ‘Gorilla’ suffer three straight defeats, with Till now revealing that his troubles in the Octagon have been caused by a string of serious injuries.
‘I’ve been suffering for the past two years, and it’s no secret I think now, at this point,’ Till told MMA Junkie.
‘I’ve got a torn ACL in my right knee,’ Till said. ‘Whittaker fight, I tore my MCL. Eight weeks before I fought Derek Brunson, I tore my ACL in the same knee, and the other one is a torn MCL.

‘So, the other one’s not that bad, but the right one, a torn ACL, you don’t get no worse. Every grade is tore.
‘I’ve been trying to convince myself I’m okay when I’m not, so I need to go off and do some rigorous f*****g stuff with my body, and obviously, the mental side comes into it a little bit.’
Those defeats to Australian Robert Whittaker (decision), Derek Brunson (submission), and Dricus Du Plessis (submission) have caused Till to re-evaluate his future in the sport.
The 30-year-old explained how he sought out stem cell treatments as an alternative to surgery but that didn’t work and caused him to tailor his training so he could look after his body in the build-up to fights.
Till didn’t take part in crucial grappling sessions as to avoid further injury to his knee and took the hard decision to leave Dana White’s UFC line-up to give his body sufficient time to recover.

Till admitted he plans to return to the UFC line-up in two years time once he has healed
Although the decision initially caught UFC chief business officer Hunter Campbell by surprise, Till explained how he plans to return to the sport in two years.
‘Maybe I want to leave the UFC for like two years, and just maybe venture out, and obviously look out for my health for two years, and come back and stuff like that,’ Till said.
‘I had a good conversation with him. … I’m thinking I’ll be back, no matter what you say, I know I will. Like, we’ve got a good relationship.
‘It’s not like you kicked me out the UFC, I’m asking to be released, and you’re releasing me.’
