Conor McGregor’s "crazy fan" who named seven children she wanted with UFC star
Conor McGregor could never have imagined the sheer scale of fame and fortune he would achieve in the UFC.
The former apprentice plumber climbed the mixed martial arts ranks in his early twenties before going on to become a two-weight Cage Warriors champion.
And he repeated that feat in the UFC, beating first featherweight champion Jose Aldo and then lightweight ruler Eddie Alvarez.
His sporting success has enabled him to amass a fortune which runs into the hundreds of millions and which has been boosted by his business interests.
But along with the trappings of success, McGregor has also experienced the extreme edge to glory.
And in his Notorious documentary, the Dubliner recalls one particular 'fan' whose interest went beyond obsession.
Reading from his phone, McGregor says: "The email is 'For Conor's eyes only please' – and this is about the 150th.
"Hi Conor, after my last relationship broke down I had a very powerful feeling in my body that I was soon to meet the love of my life. At around the same time I had the vision of being in Vegas.
"I do need one thing from you at this stage, please be honest about what is going on here.
"I feel like we have been sharing this love online and elsewhere. I see us having a number of children; Ella, Shannon, Conor, Hugh, Michael, James, Seamus are some names I have in mind.
"Now, I have not written back to this crazy b**** once, but she keeps on sending emails, emails, emails – like big detailed ones like that, naming the kids and things, it's f****** up, isn't it?
"What do you do with that? That b**** will show up at the gaff one day with a bleedin' gun or something."
McGregor's stock may have fallen somewhat in recent years after he suffered defeats by Khabib Nurmagomedov and Dustin Poirier.
He goes into this weekend's trilogy fight with Poirier having won just one of his last three fights.
But he appears to still have plenty of fans on side if the scenes from California last week were anything to go by.
McGregor and his team were heading out to dinner when the locals got wind of their movements and flooded to the scene.
The Irishman appeared to be completely stunned by the turnout, and in a video he posted can be heard saying "Jesus Christ, look at this," before starting to shadow box as the crowd, who were held back by police, cheer before he hopped back into his white convertible.
But the Dubliner struggles to get out of the car park due to the volume of people surrounding his car as he says: "I think I'm stuck."
Eventually McGregor is able to leave the car park but he is chased down the road by a number of fans before he is eventually directed home on radio.
And his coach John Kavanagh explained the experience after the meal, saying on Twitter : "Quiet end-of-camp team meal… Turns into streets shut down when word got around. Nuts haha."
McGregor is also confident his fans will tune in tonight when he takes on Poirier for a third time with the fight tipped to break the UFC pay-per-view record.
