Conor McGregor’s Celtic takeover proposal prompts response from Parkhead boss
Celtic caretaker manager John Kennedy has given rumours of a Conor McGregor takeover short shrift after claims emerged he could buy shares in the Scottish giants.
The Notorious has recently discussed how he plans to invest in a sports team, with both Celtic and Manchester United touted as beneficiaries.
McGregor has previously been pictured in a Celtic shirt in the run-up to one of his fights in the Octagon, gifted to him by pal Kieran Tierney.
Celtic fans paid tribute to the fighter back in 2017, unfurling a huge banner with the quote: “We’re not here to take part. We’re here to take over,” in a nod to a post-fight comment he made after knocking out Diego Brandao earlier that year.
He teased his interest in getting involved in the sport when he asked on social media whether he should buy Manchester United, amid protests about the Glazer family's ownership.
And though that always seemed ambitious, the Irishman has claimed he appears determined to make a dent in football.
When pressed on his plans in a Q & A, he admitted he has already held talks with Celtic’s majority owner Dermot Desmond about acquiring a stake.

"A conversation came up regarding Celtic first to be honest," he said. "To acquire shares from Dermot Desmond. I am certainly interested in acquiring a sports team at some stage!
"Both Celtic and Man United are teams I like for sure. But I am open. I feel I could do big things for a club."
McGregor’s net worth is believed to be in the region of £300million, through his earnings from UFC, sponsorship deals and his recently sold shares of whiskey company Proper Twelve.
Despite the 32-year-old's financial firepower, interim Celtic boss Kennedy has said there is no evidence to suggest there is any substance to his social media post.
“I think last week he was at Man United, as well,” John Kennedy told Celtic TV on Monday.
“It looks like he’s trying to get his teeth into football somehow, but i don’t think there’s anything in that at all.”
