Conor McGregor insists UFC return in December is 'back on the table'
Conor McGregor insists fight with Michael Chandler in December is ‘back on the table’… despite Dana White recently stating the UFC were targeting early 2024 for the pay-per-view clash

- News comes after Dana White claimed UFC were looking at an early 2024 date
- The Irishman also fired shots at former UFC interim champion Tony Ferguson
The ongoing saga over when Conor McGregor will return to action has taken yet another turn.
McGregor has been out of action for more than two years after suffering a devastating leg injury during his trilogy bout with Dustin Poirier at UFC 264.
With an arduous recovery process behind him, the Irishman has since returned to training and coached alongside Michael Chandler for the 31st season of The Ultimate Fighter.
The only remaining question for McGregor is when he and Chandler will meet inside the Octagon.
Chandler claimed earlier this week that he was hopeful the pair could face off in an as yet unannounced pay-per-view card in December, but Dana White insisted that a date early next year is looking more likely.
Conor McGregor has revealed that his fight with Michael Chandler could take place this year
The former two-weight world champion announced the news on social media on Tuesday
McGregor also reignited his feud with former UFC interim champion Tony Ferguson
However, despite early 2024 seeming increasingly more likely, McGregor has taken to social media to insist that a return before the year’s end is not out of the question.
In a tweet on Tuesday McGregor wrote: ‘December is back on the table!’
The former two-weight world champion also took aim at long-time rival Tony Ferguson, writing: ‘I’m gonna end you and badly. I’ve not forgot.’
McGregor’s return to action is complicated by the fact he has been out of the UFC’s drug testing pool since the fight with Poirier in 2021.
The USADA protocol states that fighters must submit to six months of testing before a return to action, meaning that ordinarily McGregor would not be cleared in time for a return this year.
However, the same clause asserts that the UFC can waive the six-month requirement under ‘exceptional circumstances’, something they did to facilitate Brock Lesnar’s return against Mark Hunt at UFC 200.
