Adesanya insists Jones fight is not dead despite UFC 259 defeat
‘Hell no! That fight is not dead’: Israel Adesanya insists he will still take on rival Jon Jones despite defeat by Jan Blachowicz at UFC 259
- Israel Adesanya stepped up to fight Jan Blachowicz at light-heavyweight but lost
- Ambitious plan to become two-weight champion was derailed at UFC 259
- With Jon Jones moving to heavyweight, many think Adesanya clash is unlikely
- But ‘Stylebender’ has insisted that they will still lock horns in the future
Israel Adesanya has insisted that a future fight with Jon Jones will still happen despite his defeat up at light-heavyweight against Jan Blachowicz.
Many believed Adesanya would become two-weight champion but the power and size of the Polish champion was too much for him at UFC 259.
Jones is moving up to heavyweight so the chances of him taking on the middleweight champion seem slim.

Jones is moving up to heavyweight and is dismissive of Adesanya now that he’s lost
The American has engaged in a war of words with Adesanya for months and took pleasure in seeing his rival beaten earlier this month.
He tweeted: ‘If you ever wrote me talking s*** about Izzy beating me, slap yourself.’
And in response to Adesanya’s coach talking up the fight, he said: ‘Your boy has almost no take down defense or offense off his back. Now you’re just being a cloud trout, if you would honestly send him in there against a 260lb wrestler after that last performance, you don’t care about his well being.’
But Adesanya is adamant that he will step into the cage with Jones at some point.
When asked by ESPN if the fight was dead, he said: ‘Hell no! This is just a valley in my story. In any movie, in any anime series, you always have the valleys and you rise up from that.
‘This is just mine and it’s like, all right, cool, bet. I’m taking this very well, and I know exactly what I have to do to get back to my true self, so yeah, I’m doing just that. But nah, that fight’s not dead. I’m coming for that ass.’
Adesanya then went on the attack and called the former light-heavyweight champion ‘fake’.
He continued: ‘This is deeper than fighting now. He knows, we know, we all know what he’s like. We all know how fake he is. It’s not even gonna take long before he f**** his life up again if he hasn’t already and kept it low key and swept it under the rug.
Adesanya believes he knows how to get ‘back to his true self’ following the defeat
‘You had quarantine Izzy last time going at him and just giving facts, straight facts, so I’m just taking my time right now, doing my own thing, focusing on myself. But, he should do the same because his life could be in shambles.’
For now, Adesanya will be moving back to middleweight where he remains the dominant force.
He wants to fight Liverpool’s Darren Till next if the British star manages to defeat Italy’s Marvin Vettori next month.
