White Sox manager Tony La Russa ripped by MLB players, fans: ‘TLR is stuck in the past’

Maybe “Malcolm in the Middle” expressed it best: The future is now, old man.

Tony La Russa — White Sox manager and gatekeeper of the Unwritten Rules and the Right Way to Play and all those other nonsense old-school baseball ideologies that are clinging to a door like Jack Dawson in “Titanic — made waves in recent days for failing to support his players.

Another stupid baseball drama played out by fragile egos and dumb, inconsequential logic was somewhat spearheaded by La Russa, who seemingly supported the Twins trying to enact dumb baseball justice when Tyler Duffey threw behind Yermin Mercedes on Tuesday night.

La Russa continued his shilling on Wednesday, seemingly trying to big league (no pun intended) starting pitcher Lance Lynn in a Wednesday news conference.

All this stemmed from Mercedes hitting a 3-0 home run in a blowout of the Twins on Monday, off position player Willians Astudillo.

La Russa, 76, recently thawed out from cryogenic deep sleep by White Sox owner Jerry Reinsdorf, is a manager from a bygone fake tough guy baseball era who seemingly has trouble grasping changing ways in baseball. The White Sox are 25-16 and in first place despite his efforts.

Players, fans and analysts, though, aren’t in agreement with La Russa’s methodologies, with plenty of tweeters voicing their displeasure of TLR’s words or attitude.
