Rockies Recap: German Marquez finishes so-so spring with 5.68 ERA – The Denver Post
White Sox 8, Rockies 2
Saturday at Salt River Fields
On the mound: In his final start of spring training, right-hander German Marquez gave up three runs on six hits, with two walks and a strikeout over three innings. He finished the Cactus League with a 5.68 ERA. … Right-hander Robert Stephenson, part of the Jeff Hoffman trade with Cincinnati, gave up a long, two-run homer to Jose Abreau in the seventh. Stephenson has a 4.50 ERA.
At the plate: While the White Sox lit up Colorado pitching for 14 hits, the Rockies managed only six. … Right fielder Charlie Blackmon, who’s hitting just .162 this spring, delivered a double, his first extra-base hit. … Infield prospect Alan Trejo hit his first homer, a solo shot in the eighth. … Outfield prospect Ryan Vilade, who’s had an excellent camp, tripled and came into score in the ninth.
Worth noting: Right-hander Chi Chi Gonzalez, added to the 40-man roster Saturday, gets the start Sunday with a chance to show he deserves a spot in the starting rotation. Left-hander Kyle Freeland’s shoulder injury opened up the spot.
