Rockies Recap: Brendan Rodgers homers, Chi Chi Gonzalez sharp – The Denver Post
Rockies 9, Mariners 9
Thursday at Peoria Stadium
On the mound: Attacking primarily with his fastball, right-hander Chi Chi Gonzalez, hoping to prove he can be part of the rotation, threw two scoreless innings and got four groundball outs. … Lefty Phillip Diehl got rocked. The Mariners hit three consecutive two-out homers off him in their five-run fifth. .. Lefty Ben Bowden, apparently over his back problems, pitched a clean sixth inning.
At the plate: Brendan Rodgers got a needed confidence boost with a two-hit day that included a solo, two-out home run in the sixth. … Outfield candidate Jonathan Daza, who’s out of options, went 2-for-3, hiking his average to .444. … Prospect Ryan Vilade started in left and was 2-for-3.
Worth noting: The brothers Scheffield took the mound Thursday — Mariners left-handed starter Justus Sheffield (two innings, no runs, two hits, one strikeout) and Rockies’ right-handed reliever Jordan Sheffield (one inning, one run, one hit, one walk).
