Rockies’ Brendan Rodgers comes off IL, to start vs. Diamondbacks – The Denver Post

It’s been a long road for Rockies infielder Brendan Rodgers, but he’s finally back with the big-league club.

The club announced Friday that Rodgers has been reinstated from the 10-day injured list where he’s been since straining his right hamstring during spring training.

Rodgers is in the starting lineup, batting sixth, for Friday night’s game against Arizona at Coors Field. His last big-league game was Aug. 29 of last season.

During his five rehab games at Triple-A Albuquerque, he hit 7-for-15 (.461) with two doubles.

Rodgers, 24, was the third overall pick in the 2015 MLB draft, but he has yet to make an impact in the majors because of a series of injuries and inconsistent performance at the plate. Rodgers has just 97 career at-bats, with a .196 average and no home runs since making his Rockies debut on May 17, 2019, at Philadelphia.

Rodgers was set to be the team’s 2021 opening day starter at second base before pulling his hamstring while attempting to steal second base during a Cactus League game. In 2019, Rodgers played in just 25 games with Colorado before his season ended when he underwent surgery on his right shoulder.

In a corresponding move, rookie infielder Alan Trejo was optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque.
