Minnesota Twins DH Nelson Cruz just misses grand slam, then hits one anyway
Designated hitter Nelson Cruz didn't see much action in the Minnesota Twins' season-opening series in Milwaukee. So perhaps he just needed a little in-game batting practice to get back up to speed.
With the bases loaded in the third inning of Monday afternoon's game against the Detroit Tigers, Cruz appeared to hit a grand slam down the right field line, but umpires ruled the ball went foul.
Undeterred, Cruz stepped back in the batter's box and removed all doubt by promptly launching a Jose Ureña slider 377 feet into the left field seats for his first home run of the season.
Good baseball karma? ?
Nelson Cruz thought he hit a grand slam that was ruled a foul. The next pitch, he actually did hit a grand slam.

Just for good measure, Cruz homered again in his next at-bat in the top of the fifth inning. But this one was only a solo shot.
Even at age 40, Cruz continues to be one of the best hitters in the game.
He hit 16 home runs during last year's shortened season and his .992 OPS ranked fourth in the American League. He also finished sixth in the league's MVP voting.
