How to get free tacos at Taco Bell, thanks to Ozzie Albies’ stolen base at World Series
Fans watching Game 1 of the World Series between the Braves and Astros didn’t have to wait long to find out whether they would get a free taco under Taco Bell’s “Steal a Base, Steal a Taco” promotion, its 10th year running.
Ozzie Albies, the third batter in Atlanta’s order, netted all of America a free taco in the top of the first by stealing second after reaching on an infield single. It was his 21st stolen base of the season after Martin Maldonado attempted to pick him off at second but mishandled the ball while preparing to throw:
It was the 50th stolen base in the World Series since Taco Bell began its deal. The team with the first stolen base has won seven of nine World Series under the promotion.
It was a great victory for America, especially considering Albies ranks as the 109th-fastest base runner in MLB, per Baseball Savant.
As if it wasn’t a momentous enough occasion, the base will also head to Cooperstown to the Baseball Hall of Fame, celebrating Albies’ heroic act of providing free tacos to millions of Americans. Oh, and the stolen base also had an effect on the game’s score. Jorge Soler got the Braves on the board first with a solo home run to start the game; following Albies’ stolen base, Austin Riley doubled to deep center to score the runner.
Atlanta stranded Riley on second after Eddie Rosario struck out swinging and Adam Duvall flew out to right.
But, hey, free tacos! Here’s how to claim them from Taco Bell:
