Giants will be first MLB team to wear Pride uniforms

The Giants plan to celebrate Pride Month in a way unlike any Major League Baseball team to date.

On Tuesday, the Giants announced that they will incorporate the 11 pride colors in their on-field uniforms with a San Francisco logo pride patch on the right sleeve of the jersey and a custom hat with the pride colors in the logo.

San Francisco will don the uniforms Saturday in a home game against the Cubs.

“We are extremely proud to stand with the LGBTQ+ community as we kick off one of the best annual celebrations in San Francisco by paying honor to the countless achievements and contributions of all those who identify as LGBTQ+ and are allies of the LGBTQ+ community,” Giants president and CEO Larry Baer said in the statement.

According to a report on the Giants’ team page, fans purchasing tickets for the SF Pride Day on Saturday will receive limited-edition “SF Pride” T-shirts, and partial proceeds from the tickets will go toward San Francisco Pride.

The uniform decision is the latest by the Giants organization to be ahead of the rest of MLB. In 2019, the Eugene Emeralds, the Giants High-A affiliate, wore pride jerseys and became the first Minor League Baseball team to incorporate the colors in their uniform.
