Angels’ Dylan Bundy vomits on mound, leaves game vs. Yankees
Angels pitcher Dylan Bundy was forced to exit Monday’s game at the Yankees after vomiting on the mound.
The incident occurred with two outs in the bottom of the second; Bundy, who had thrown 43 pitches, was facing DJ LeMahieu at the time he vomited. It’s uncertain what the cause was, though it’s possible Bundy suffered from heat-related nausea amid record heatwaves in the U.S. (it was roughly 90 degrees in New York with 58 percent humidity at the time).
Video of the incident also shows sweat dripping from Bundy’s cap before he stepped away from the mound.
Bundy had a brief back-and-forth with a trainer before exiting the game. He was credited with 1 2/3 innings pitched, four hits, two earned runs and a 6.78 ERA. The two runs came off an RBI groundout by Gary Sanchez (LeMahieu scored) in the first and a Gio Urshela home run in the second.
Jose Suarez came on in relief of Bundy, getting out of the inning with no damage after LeMahieu grounded out to second.
Video also captured Brooklyn Nets superstar Kevin Durant watching as the action unfolded. His reaction was quite appropriate for what he witnessed:
The Angels have yet to provide an update on Bundy’s status.
