Winner Danilo D’Airy who landed 100-1 gamble hit with 52lb weights rise
A shock winner gambled right down from odds of 100-1 has been handed a 52lb weights hike by the handicapper.
Danilo D'Airy had shown very little on the track under rules before taking Saturday's Racing TV Conditional Jockeys' Handicap Chase at Warwick.
Officially rated 35 for the three-mile race, he was backed in from huge odds on Friday into a starting price of 13-2.
Racing from 38lb out of the handicap, his supporters would have been encouraged from an early stage as he led after the first fence.
Clear at half way, he overcame a jumping blunder to score by nine lengths on soft to heavy going.
In response to the comfortable victory, the assessor put him up to a mark of 87 on Tuesday – 52lb higher than when he lined up at the weekend.
Trainer Robert Bevis told the stewards that the yard appeared to be in better form than when the 2018 Larkhill point winner ran at Fontwell on February 18, when he was beaten by 97¾ lengths.
He added that Danilo D'Airy had appreciated the step up in trip to three miles, benefited from a return to jumping fences and appreciated the slower ground.
The son of Anzillero, Bevis' second winner under rules from 19 runners, is the lowest-rated horse to pick up a jumps handicap since 1994.
He had been entered for a race at Ffos Las yesterday, before his new mark kicked in, but was declared a non-runner.
