Wagga or Gosford as Paths Of Glory targets back-to-back stakes victories
Co-trainer Richard Freedman is banking on more of the same from in-form stayer Paths Of Glory this week as the tough import targets back-to-back stakes victories.
A last start victory in the Group 3 JRA Plate (2000m) at Randwick on All Aged Stakes day has the six-year-old gelding primed for another big showing on day two of the Wagga Carnival.
Freedman, who trains alongside his brother Michael in Sydney, has nominated Paths Of Glory for the Listed Wagga Gold Cup (2000m) as well as Saturday’s Listed Gosford Gold Cup (2100m).
Paths Of Glory fared well at the barriers in both races, drawing gate one at Gosford and four at Wagga Wagga 24 hours earlier and is a $5.50 TAB fixed odds chance in both events.

But a dry track at Wagga – rated a Good 4 on Thursday – is likely to sway the Freedmans to head to the Riverina
“We are leaning towards Wagga because the track will be a bit better and I am a little worried about drawing the fence at Gosford,” Freedman said.
“The horse is good, he is doing fine.
“He is going as well as he was before he won the JRA Plate last month and I expect he’s ready to run as well as he did then.”
Star Sydney jockey Rachel King has been booked to ride Paths Of Glory in both races after producing a well-timed effort on the stayer in the JRA Plate.
Paths Of Glory holds nominations up in Brisbane for later in the Winter Carnival with the Group 1 Doomben Cup (May 22) and The Q22 (June 12) possibilities for the classy son of Mastercraftsman.
“With older horses like him we will just let him tell us with the way he is racing but if keeps enjoying it we will certainly give it consideration,” Freedman said.
