Victorian two-year-old Darceandermill heads to Randwick for final run of campaign
Classy colt Darceandermill has one more box to tick at Randwick this Saturday before trainers Jason Warren and Dean Krongold pull up stumps on his promising juvenile season.
The Mornington training partnership have sent their classy son of Lonhro north of the border to tackle the Acy Securities 2YO Handicap (1100m).
Darceandermill is chasing his third win from four runs this preparation and will look to cap off his two-year-old season in his first start racing the Sydney way this weekend.
“He is tough, honest and if he handles the Sydney way of going I expect he should be in the finish again,” Krongold said.
“He likes wet tracks and there just didn't seem like a suitable race for him down here so we sent him up there.
“The horse is very well. He is already up there after making his way up on Sunday night.”
Darceandermill opened at $16 with TAB fixed odds but that price was quickly snapped up and the colt was $13 by Wednesday afternoon with Jean Van Overmeire booked to ride.
Warren and Krongold made the decision to come to Sydney with the intention of spelling Darceandermill in warmer surrounds after Saturday’s run and expect his chances will be boosted by a wet forecast.
Randwick was rated a Soft 7 on Wednesday with rain predicted in Sydney on Friday and Saturday.
The stable hope Darceandermill can measure up in stakes grade when he returns as a three-year-old.
He has already been tested in stakes grade once before, finishing 11th on debut last October in the Listed Debutant Stakes (1000m) in a race won by the speedy Fake Love with eventual Sires’ Produce Stakes winner Anamoe also in the field.
Darceandermill was spelled after the run but has come on leaps and bounds in his second preparation.
“He has always shown us a bit,” Krongold said.
“This time in, he has really delivered and just gets better and better.
“He has realised his potential as a genuine city class horse and if he can improve again hopefully we are looking at some black type later on.”
Krongold believes Darceandermill is capable of showing his versatility over longer sprint trips as a three-year-old.
“I think in time he should get seven furlongs,” he said.
“Jamie (Kah) got off him last start and thought after that he might be more of a 1400m horse now but we will wait until next preparation.”
