Trainer Greg Eurell holding out faint hope of Stradbroke start for Blazejowski
Blazejowski getting a start in Saturday’s Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) would only solve one of Cranbourne trainer Greg Eurell’s problems.
Blazejowski is 24th in line for a start in the $1.5 million Stradbroke with only 18 runners set to line up in the Eagle Farm event with five emergencies named.
“I think we’ll be very lucky to get in,” Eurell said.
“We’ll thrown an acceptance in and see how we go and if we don’t get in, we’ll run him in the 1200m race they’ve got there on Saturday.”
Eurell is praying for a Stradbroke start for the grey but making the field would present the trainer with another problem – finding a jockey to ride Blazejowski at 51kg with only five days’ notice.
“That’s the hard part, we haven’t got anyone,” Eurell said.
“Understandably, no-one would commit to that weight because of where we sat in the draw.
“That will be another tricky exercise, getting somebody there that could ride that weight that is going to be capable too.”
Blazejowski finished only 3-½ lengths from the winner Vega One in the Group 1 Kingsford-Smith Cup (1300m) at his last outing.

Eurell said the six-year-old lost his winning chance at the start of the $700,000 race while the weight-for-age format was against the son of Dash For Cash.
“Last start, he never really broke away clean and got back in a very unfamiliar position for him, then came down the worst part of the track and he’s not a weight-for-age horse,” Eurell said.
“In a handicap, it will be a different story.”
While Eurell has his share of headaches leading into the Stradbroke Handicap, Blazejowski’s fitness is not one of them.
“We’re not in a very good position going into this race. The horse is right but there’s a few negatives for him,” Eurell said.
“If he draws a different gate with that weight, we’re going to see a different horse no doubt.
“He’s done a treat up there and is in very good order.”
