The 15 NSW trainers ineligible for new Midway races
Fifteen of the biggest city and provincial stables in New South Wales have been deemed ineligible to contest the upcoming Midway race series events which will be run on most Saturday metropolitan cards.
The Midway races were announced in February, with almost $5m allocated for prizemoney for the first year of the races during the 2021/22 season.
The series of Saturday events were designed to “to build the competitiveness of small to mid-sized stables and further develop the field sizes and quality for metropolitan racing”, according to Racing NSW chairman Russell Balding.
The first of the new Midway Handicap races will be run at Rosehill on July 3. It will be a Benchmark 72 handicap over 1100m.

All NSW metropolitan and provincial-based stables are eligible unless they become ineligible by amassing sufficient points under a scale that factored in performances across all Australian racing.
Additional penalties were given to trainers who’s horses performed with distinction in Group, Listed and feature races carrying prizemoney of greater than $200,000.
At the conclusion of the process, the following trainers, listed in alphabetical order, were deemed ineligible to contest Midway races during the 2021/22 season in Sydney:
