Team Snowden filly Forzanini scores emotional win for inspirational owner Nini Vascotto

Snowden Racing filly Forzanini demonstrated the fighting spirit of her namesake and part-owner when scoring an emotional victory at Randwick on Wednesday.

The daughter of Pride Of Dubai knuckled down late to chalk up a maiden success when capturing The Agency Real Estate Plate (1100m) with part-owner Nini Vascotto trackside.

Vascotto’s own determination and fighting spirit has seen her become an inspiration to many within the racing industry and beyond in recent years.

She has been fighting cancer for 11 years and continues to defy expert opinion as she battles against the odds.

Vascotto has shared that journey on social media and a recent update provided a harsh reminder of the uphill battle still in front of her.

It has unfortunately led to further radiation treatment on tumours in her brain and another round of chemotherapy.

But Vascotto refuses to give up.

Forzanini has been named in her honour by Torryburn Stud, owned by John Cornish, and the filly provided her with a much-needed boost with a breakthrough win on the Kensington track.

“I am over the moon, it couldn‘t have come at a better time,” Vascotto said.

“It’s a very special win more so because of my connection with the horse.

“Her mother was called Fornini and that was named after me by the Cornish family and the late Pam Cornish left me a share in this filly.

“She also had cancer and we had a very strong friendship and connection because of that so this is a very special win.”

Jockey Sam Clipperton produced a well-timed ride to deliver the emotional victory as he propelled Forzanini along late to beat Duchy Of Savoy.

The celebrations from the owners yard could be heard across the country but unfortunately for Vascotto they‘d need to continue off track.

“A girl from the hospital called when they were in the mounting yard and I am back at the hospital now to get a blood transfusion,” Vascotto said.

Vascotto admits recent treatment has been “really tough” but the win of Forzanini as well as the ongoing support from across the racing industry continues to will her on in her brave fight.

“So many people have reached out, I feel blessed,” she said.

“The industry is like one big family and I am quite humbled to get the support I have over the past couple of years, even when quite embarrassing sometimes.

“People just want to help and I have got so many messages from people, some that I don‘t even know, that have reached out with their best wishes.

“It is all very humbling.”
