Skyline Stakes 2021: Shaquero to prove his Golden Slipper credentials
Shaquero has the opportunity to convince Hugh Bowman to lock in the colt as his Golden Slipper ride when he contests the Group 2 $200,000 Skyline Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick.
Bowman won the Magic Millions on Shaquero and has a high opinion of the talented Chris Waller-trained colt.
But Bowman is also first-choice jockey for Inglis Millennium winner and current $4 Golden Slipper favourite Profiteer, who runs in the Todman Stakes next week. Shaquero is at $15 in latest Slipper betting
The champion jockey, who won the Golden Slipper last year on Farnan, will soon have to make the difficult choice on which youngster he will ride in the world’s richest juvenile race, run at Rosehill on March 20.

Shaquero hasn’t raced since his Magic Millions win but he trialled impressively at Rosehill earlier this month and is $2.50 favourite for the Skyline Stakes.
“He’s a serious Golden Slipper contender,’’ Bowman said of Shaquero.
“I haven’t been on him since he won the Magic Millions but he did win that with authority. Each run he’s had, he’s got better and better.
“I want to see how he measures up on Saturday and I will be interested in Chris’s thoughts on the colt when I speak to him about him.’’
Bowman also rides the Ciaron Maher and David Eustace-trained Nice For What in the Group 2 $200,000 Sweet Embrace Stakes (1200m).
Nice For What resumed in the Inglis Mllennium earlier this month and ran fourth, beaten nearly eight lengths behind the rampant Profiteer.
But Bowman did ride Nice For What at her only other start when second to Dosh in the Ottawa Stakes at Flemington last spring and believes she’s a filly with potential.
“When I rode her in Melbourne she gave me a really good feel,’’ Bowman said.
“It didn’t pan out for her in the Millennium last start, I don’t think she would have won if it did, but she’s a promising type and looks to be well placed in the fillies race on Saturday.’’
Nice For What is at $9.50 in latest betting being John Sargent’s boom, unbeaten filly Four Moves Ahead at $2.60 favourite.
