Satin Ribbons to make low key debut at Kembla Grange while stablemate Exoboom aims for back-to-back feature wins at Rosehill
Boom filly Satin Ribbons will make a low key debut on Saturday at Kembla Grange after Team Snowden decided not to start her from a wide gate at the 1100m Rosehill trip.
Co-trainer Paul Snowden said it wasn’t a tough decision to miss a stakes race in Sydney to run at the provincials despite how valuable a Woodlands Stakes win would be to the Capitalist juvenile.
“We didn’t want her to have to do the impossible in her first start in a race,” Snowden said.
“She’s no doubt got the ability and if we drew a better gate we would’ve been running at Rosehill tomorrow.
“I’m sure it (stakes race) will happen, it’s just a matter of when.”
At Rosehill the Snowdens will try to win another feature race with Exoboom in the $300,000 Inglis 3YO Guineas.
He took out the Hawkesbury Guineas a fortnight ago and history says he will be improved further off that performance.
“He’s come through it very well,” Snowden said.
“This is his third racing preparation so he’s got a bit of a profile and once he gets into a preparation he keeps getting better.
“Last time in, his winning margins kept getting wider and wider so it suggests he’s in for another good preparation.”
Exoboom will get back from barrier 12 under Regan Bayliss, like he did to win last time.
On this occasion, however, he’ll have to get past $2.90 favourite Prime Star, who has placed at Group 2 grade and been just 3½ lengths off Lion’s Roar in a Group 1 race.
“He’s the horse that’s going to get the right run from the draw and he’ll be in the first four,’’ Snowden said.
“And we’ll be spotting him a start but I’d like to think we’ve got the ability to go with it,” Snowden said.
“I’m not too worried about the gate. He’s a massive horse and with room to move it’s always easier for that type of horse.”

California Zimbol and Wayupinthesky take each other on in the Listed Ortensia Stakes and the more the track dries out the harder Wayupinthesky will find it to beat her stablemate.
“California Zimbol does not like it wet. Zimbol would chew her up and spit her out if it was a Good 4, there’s no comparison,” Snowden said.
“One’s got the class on her side while the other is going well. They’re both going to get the right economical runs and they both need that to be in the finish, especially Wayupinthesky.”
Snowden said punters should forget Smart Image’s last run when getting no luck and he tries to bounce back in the last race today while Military Zone returns from tie back surgery in the Luskin Star Stakes.
“His throat had a lot to do with the way he was performing but that’s been fixed and his trials have been good,” Snowden said.
“He always seems to run well fresh so I wouldn’t put it beyond him. He looks a bit older now. It’s hard to say how well he’ll sprint fresh but it looks like he will.”
To win however, he’ll have to beat odds-on pop Lost And Running.
“We’re taking on a horse that’s right at the top of its game so he’ll be hard to toss. If ours can run well he’ll certainly run a hole,” Snowden said.
Miss Bosetti kicks off the Rosehill card for the Snowdens in the Denise’s Joy Stakes (1100m) and she’s already run in three states so far.
“There’s not many 1000m and 1100m races for her which is why she’s gone everywhere. She can’t get 1200m,” Snowden said.
“She’ll go to the paddock after this run but her form isn’t as bad as it suggests..”
