San Domenico Stakes day nominations August 28
Racing returns to Kembla Grange on Saturday with Golden Slipper winner Stay Inside set to kick off his spring campaign along with Magic Millions winner Shaquero.
Star colt Stay Inside will not only be looking to break the curse that has seen recent winners of the juvenile feature not come up in their three-year-old campaign, but is auditioning for one of the remaining slots in the $15m The Everest.
He is one of 11 nominations that have been taken for the Group 3 San Domenico Stakes (1100m).
Hawkes Racing won the 2019 edition of the feature with Exceedance and have entered Remarque for Saturday’s renewal.
Remarque was luckless two weeks back in the Rosebud behind Godolphin colt Paulele, but will get the chance to turn the tables with that horse also nominated to line up.
That's four for @mcacajamez at @royalrandwick!@godolphin colt Paulele races clear to take out the Listed Rosebud (1100m) from In The Congo and the luckless Remarque. @[email protected]/jTBjQ6kWIw
Chris Waller has just the one nomination with Magic Millions hero Shaquero while Peter and Paul Snowden have entered Champagne Stakes winner Captivant, along with Kalashnikov and Mazu.
Kiwi Group 1 winner Sword Of State is expected to fly the flag for Jamie Richards.
Eighteen have been entered for the remaining three-year-old feature on Saturday, with Stakes contenders Giannis and Alpine Edge headlining nominations for the Group 3 Ming Dynasty Quality (1400m).
Along with Group 1 placed Giannis, Waller has also entered Ranch Hand, Yulong Turbo, Head Of State and Coastwatch.
Meanwhile, 21 nominations were taken for the Group 3 Premier’s Cup (2000m), with 2020 Melbourne Cup contender Dashing Willoughby set to make his debut for the Waller stable.
Other notable gallopers resuming include Mark Newnham’s handy gelding Spirit Ridge along with Le Don De Vie.
Kembla was rated a good (4) on Monday morning but that may downgrade with rain forecast throughout the week in the Illawarra.
The rail will be in the four metre position from the 1100m and two metres for the remainder.
