Ryan Moore falls and swan moved off the track on eventful night at Windsor races
Top jockey Ryan Moore suffered a dramatic fall at Windsor on the night racegoers made their return to the track.
The rider, who had earlier celebrated a double on the card, came off Aplomb just before the winning post in the Fitzdares Royal Windsor Sprint Series Qualifier Handicap (7.20).
The 6-4 favourite was set to take third, behind the 4-1 winner Punchbowl Flyer, when he lost his footing and came down.
Moore was fired into the turf in the incident, which drew gasps from the crowd, but thankfully he rose to his feet immediately afterwards.
Aplomb was caught and the on-course spokesperson for trainer Jane Chapple-Hyam confirmed the gelding was also unscatched.
An inspection was held before the sixth race, the Eddy May Centenary Maiden Fillies' Stakes – and the stewards found the track was safe for the fixture to continue.
Jockeys including dual champion Oisin Murphy came out to check the area of the track where Moore and his mount parted company.
Then, ahead of the delayed penultimate contest, a swan had to be moved off the track to allow the runners to break from the stalls.
Groundstaff arrived in a vehicle and ushered it under the rail.
Moore rode the winner of the feature Listed Weatherbys ePassport Stakes, Dream Of Dreams (2-7f), on an evening which also saw him draw level with William Buick at the top of the Flat jockeys' championship.
The popular sprinter is set to be targeted at Royal Ascot once again, following the comfortable two-and-a-quarter length success.
The final contest, the Fitzdares Club Is Now Open Handicap, was also held up – and the stewards held a further assessment of conditions while the runners paraded.
After a lengthy delay, they ordered it to be called off, as darkness fell at the Berkshire venue.
