Last year Royal Ascot took place without its usual crowds due to the lockdown. But this year Royal Ascot is part of the Government’s Events Research Programme. As a result, 12,000 people are allowed to attend the events, providing they have tested negative for Covid.

Will the Queen be at Ascot?

The Queen is expected to attend the opening day of Ascot and many are hopeful she will make an appearance in the royal box.

Royal Ascot is known to be one of the Queen’s favourite events of the year and she regularly attended Ascot before the pandemic.

Every year the Queen has traditionally arrived at Royal Ascot in a carriage procession accompanied by guests.

However, PA reported if the Queen does attend the event this week, she is likely to do so in a limousine this time.

The Queen could well make an appearance as she has entered a number of runners into Royal Ascot this week.

A devoted horse breeder, the Queen’s thoroughbred King’s Lynn is due to race in the King’s Stand Stakes on Tuesday.

It is not known yet whether other members of the Royal Family will also be in attendance at the event.

How can you watch Royal Ascot?

All of the races at this year’s Royal Ascot will be available to view on ITV.

ITV’s coverage will be presented by hosts Ed Chamberlin and Francesca Cumani, alongside pundit Jason Weaver.

Mr Chamberlin said: “With some of the crowds back, the atmosphere will return to Royal Ascot and we will ensure viewers at home won’t miss a thing with every race covered in a five-hour show every day.”

Ms Cumani added: “Royal Ascot is one of my favourite weeks of the year.

“In spite of a ‘lockdown’ Ascot last year we had some extraordinary racing, and this year we expect more of this, plus the joy of having people back to bring Ascot back to its glitz, glamour and glory.”

Sky Sports Racing will also be showing every race live this year too.
