Racing trainer walks horse into a bar as one drinker asks for a pint of Guinness

John 'Shark' Hanlon no longer has to joke about when a horse walks into a bar.

The trainer can now tell the tale of when he brought Ireland's wonder horse Hewick for a homecoming pint of Guinness and left a pub full of customers in complete awe.

Hanlon's thoroughbred Hewick was bought for a mere £800 but wrote his name in punter folklore after winning £140,000 at the American Grand National earlier this month.

Hewick has secured nearly £400,000 in winnings on the racetrack and is now a contender for next year's Gold Cup at Cheltenham.

Such has been the level of Hewick's success, a celebration was put on for trainer Hanlon as the horse returned to County Carlow in Ireland after his stateside heroics.

An event was arranged to take place at County Carlow's pub 'The Pint Depot' with plenty of pints of Guinness poured to toast the triumphant horse.

But little did horse racing fans who turned up at the pub awaiting Hanlon knew what was coming next.

Hanlon is seen in a viral video gently walking Hewick through the door into the pub, and unassumingly asking the bar staff: ''Can I get a pint of Guinness now?"

The video shared by John Hanlon Racing has now amassed over 200,000 views on social media, with horse racing fans as shocked as the punters who were present at the pub.

Customers at the Bagenalstown venue, near Hanlon's stables, immediately whipped their phones out to capture the memorable moment as the horse was brazenly walked towards the bar area.

And true to Hanlon's word, another clip shows Hewick snorting into a pint of Guinness as fans joked in the background.

As well as the American Grand National, Hewick was also victorious and claimed big money prizes at the Galway Plate and the Bet365 Gold Cup.

The horse's odds are likely to shorten before next year's prestigious Gold Cup at Cheltenham, where another County Carlow epic party could await.
