Raceday focus: Best bets, analysis for Sandown Hillside on Wednesday
Herald Sun form analyst Brad Waters runs the rule over Wednesday’s card on the Sandown Hillside track.
BEST BET
WORSFOLD (R7 No. 6 – $3)
Worsfold had no luck when narrowly beaten at Sale last time out and the winner has franked the form since. Expecting the Nick Smart-trained gelding to bounce back at Sandown.
NEXT BEST
LION’S SHARE (R4 No. 4 – $4)
Lion’s Share ran on well to score in a similar race at Sandown and there’s no reason the promising stayer can’t add another win to her solid record.
RAPID ACHIEVER (R5 No. 6 – $2.80)
The French-bred Rapid Achiever was simply a class above her rivals on debut at Donald last start. She can stay unbeaten at Sandown on her way to harder races.
THE AWESOME SON (Race 6 No. 7 – $4.60)
The Autumn Sun’s three-quarter brother The Awesome Son has shown plenty of potential in his three starts to date, including a fighting win in the mud at Moe last time. He’ll measure up to Wednesday’s test.

VALUE BET
SIR KALAHAD (R8 No. 1 – $11)
Sir Kalahad has had plenty of recent racing but continues to perform well. He won easily in Adelaide two runs back before a solid effort over 1000m last week. He’s worth another each-way ticket on Wednesday.
THE JOCKEY
CRAIG WILLIAMS
Craig Williams can get off to the perfect start with Barb Raider in the first race and can notch a few more wins at Sandown after that. BARB RAIDER (R1 No. 3 – $2.70), SANDY PRINCE (R2 No. 5 – $3), MONTANA FLASH (R3 No. 10 – $12), MINYINGA (R8 No. 13 – $12).
THE WEEK AHEAD
Warrnambool will hold an eight-event card of flat racing on Thursday before Bendigo races on Friday. The Valley will take centre stage on Saturday with the McKenzie Stakes and Carlyon Stakes. Sale and Swan Hill will host Victoria’s Sunday meeting before we’re back at the Pakenham Synthetic track on Monday.
