Raceday focus: Best bets, analysis for Mildura on Friday

Herald Sun form analyst Brad Waters runs the rule over Friday’s card at Mildura.

BEST BET

ZOUTONS (Race 4 No. 5 – $2.80)

Zoutons was a fighting winner first-up before showing ability in town last time in. He easily won a Bendigo jumpout leading up to this and he’ll be hard to catch fresh.

NEXT BEST

O’WHATAPICTURE (Race 2 No. 5 – $3.70)

O’Whatapicture got too far back but chased well when resuming on the synthetic at Ballarat. His grass-track form is much better and expecting him to break through at Mildura.

SLEEPLESS (Race 6 No. 10 – $5.50)

Sleepless ran well behind the in-form Just As Soon at Sandown when off a four-week break last time out but the drop to 2000m will be perfect for him on Friday.

SIERRA SUE (Race 7 No. 2 – $2.70)

Sierra Sue was OK at Group 1 level two runs back and tried hard at Flemington last Saturday. She was a Group 2 winner over 1400m last spring and this will be much easier.

VALUE BET

ZOUJEA (Race 5 No. 6 – $8)

Zoujea mixed her form last time in but was competitive in town over summer. She was narrowly beaten in a BM70 race at Caulfield last time in and a repeat effort would get her home at Mildura.

THE JOCKEY

HARRY COFFEY

Coffey is usually good for a few winners in the north west area of Victoria and Friday’s Mildura meeting should be no exception. BANNERTON (Race 1 No. 1 – $9), VERSAIDER (Race 2 No. 11 – $151), SABAKU (Race 3 No. 12 – $6 ZOUTONS (Race 4 No. 5 – $2.80), ZOUJEA (Race 5 No. 6 – $8), QUEEN GUINEVERE (Race 6 No. 14 – $61), REVLIS (Race 7 No. 10 – $34), SURIN BEACH (Race 8 No. 8 – $15)

THE WEEK AHEAD

Caulfield will be the scene of Saturday’s Melbourne meeting while Mildura also races again. Sale and Warracknabeal will host Sunday’s Victorian racing before the sport takes a break for the next five days.
