Punter asks Hinge match to pick Cheltenham horse – and wins in ‘true love story’

A punter who asked his Hinge match to pick a Cheltenham horse has won in a "true love story".

Twitter user Dylan Chapman shared a conversation he had on the popular dating app ahead of the second day of racing at the Cheltenham Festival on Wednesday. After matching someone called Liv, he asked her to "pick a number between 1-26", to which she answered with the number 14.

Having then placed a bet on the day's racing, Dylan told her: "I’ve put a bet on no.14 to win at the horse races today. Let’s hope you’re a lucky charm."

Next to the screenshot of their conversation, Dylan added a pic of his betting account, which showed he had won £50 from a £5 bet on Langer Dan in the Coral Cup Handicap Hurdle.

Dylan backed the number 14 horse in the 14:50, with Harry Skelton riding the 9-1 shot to victory, beating An Epic Song by a head in a thrilling race.

Alongside the two screenshots, Dylan wrote: "A true love story," and fellow racing fans loved his unique approach to getting tips on the horses.

It has once again been a busy week of betting at Cheltenham, with punter Paddy "Mad" Merrigan taking the bookies to the cleaners on Wednesday with the "biggest bet of his life".

Paddy won big on 50-1 outsider The Real Whacker in the Brown Advisory Novices' Chase after tipping the horse at a number of events in the build-up to the festival.

His support for the horse ahead of the race had helped in causing the odds on The Real Whacker to shorten down to 8-1 from 50-1 before the race started. Paddy landed at least £50,000 from a single bookies with his victory.
